OFFICIAL: Spartak Moscow Sign Nicolas Pareja From Espanyol On Four-Year Contract
Russian Premier League club Spartak Moscow have completed the signing of Nicolas Pareja from Spanish Primera Division side Espanyol on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
The centre-back joined the Barcelona-based club in 2008 after winning the gold medal with Argentina in the Olympics. The 26-year-old went on to feature for the Periquitos for the next two seasons, making 58 appearances for the Catalan side.
Pareja, who had been tipped to leave Espanyol this summer and was reportedly wanted by German champions Bayern Munich, admitted that it was not an easy decision to leave Espanyol, but is hopeful of a fruitful time in the Russian Premier League.
Sky Sports quotes the Argentine as saying, "It is a step forward in my career, because I am going to a league that is growing and to a top club playing in the Champions League next season. It is a challenge.
"I feel great sadness for all that I leave here: family, friends and a team that I doubt is like any other.
"All employees of the club have treated me wonderfully. I spent two incredible years here."
Pareja will travel to Moscow to join Spartak on Monday.
